Independent for CQ South Ward
Over the years I’ve had the privilege of becoming deeply involved in our community, and now elected, I intend to continue and expand this work with even more influence.
My partner, Vince, is a Town Councillor for Central Ward, and as his consort, I’ve always actively shadowed and supported him. Together, we’ve attended town council meetings/committee meetings, functions and events, and assisted at key occasions such as Armistice Day, Remembrance services, the town Summer Fayres, Safer Internet Day, the Annual Chair’s Charity Ball, the Connah’s Quay Festival, D-Day, the Lighting of the Beacon, and many other community events organised by the Town Council and local organisations such as the Salvation Army, The Veterans Hub, and Nanny Biscuit Food Pantries. We’ve also participated in fundraising initiatives, including the annual SAC Peter McFerran sponsored walk, honouring a Connah’s Quay-born serviceman who lost his life at just 24, raising funds for the Countess of Chester Baby Care Unit.
Vince and I champion the older residents in our community, and we’ve had the pleasure of being regular attendees formerly at Glan Y Morfa’s weekly bingo and entertainment nights, sponsored by Nanny Biscuit/CAFGas CIC and the FLVC. More recently, since joining the committee of the long established 'Connah's Quay Old Peoples Association' Charity, we now volunteer at the weekly Wednesday afternoon Bingo, which provides fun and companionship for residents over 60. I particularly enjoy assisting where possible - I'm presently assisting Ron Hill with the much needed digital aspects of the charity and look forward to lending a hand at their upcoming scheduled events and outings.
In my business capacity, I assist CAFGas CIC, a local plumbing and heating firm, while also supporting their sister company, Nanny Biscuit, on a voluntary basis. Nanny Biscuit operates a community food pantry that provides discounted food, a warm space for people to come together, and vital signposting to other resources. I manage advertising, promotions, and bookings for their annual community Christmas Party, which offers a free three-course meal for around 200 people along with a day of festive entertainment. This event is especially rewarding, bringing warmth and togetherness to families, vulnerable individuals, and those who might otherwise spend Christmas alone. Vince and I regularly pop into the pantry to see how the volunteers are doing, to have a chat with the pantry visitors and to drop off various donations we collect throughout the month.
I have been actively seeking a school governor position at Wepre School for the past 12 months or so, but with no vacancies, I hope to gain a position in time. I enjoy being a part of the 'Litter Picking for Deeside' group and regularly go out tidying our community usually on a Sunday, and in between when I have time. I have supported the Flintshire-based group ‘Bash the Flintshire Barriers,’ a passionate community initiative working to address accessibility challenges, particularly the A-frames that hinder key cycling, wheeling, and walking routes. Through advocacy and awareness efforts, many local town and county councillors are now engaged, ensuring voices are heard and real progress is being made with barriers now being removed and replaced with more suitable alternatives.
I also take great pride in my voluntary role assisting Edwin Duggan, a local anti-knife crime campaigner. I help manage administrative and organisational tasks including online marketing. Edwin’s relentless pursuit of justice, particularly following the tragic murder of local (Shotton) young mother Jade Ward, led to the successful passage of ‘Jade’s Law’ - a landmark victory in Parliament. Supporting Edwin as he continues his work on both a local and national level has been incredibly inspiring.
Since 2010, Vince and I have co-managed a thriving social group for MX-5 owners, which has grown to over 500 members. Our monthly in-person meets bring together enthusiasts from Flintshire and beyond, fostering a strong sense of community. We organise group drives, car shows, and fundraising events, supporting charities such as the Welsh Air Ambulance and Blood Bikes Wales. What began as a shared passion for cars has led to lifelong friendships, uniting people who may never have crossed paths otherwise.
Now elected, in addition to town council duties, I will utilise my position as town councillor to amplify local causes, particularly those in our ward. I am dedicated to continuing my work within the community, with the added influence of an official role to help shape the future of Connah’s Quay for the benefit of all. If you are a local group or organisation within South Ward, I'd love to hear from you.
Please note: While some individuals shown—such as councillors—may support me personally, other bodies mentioned throughout this site are largely a-political, not affiliated with my campaign. Any photos or mention of such, are in no way intended to imply endorsement, and I fully respect the neutrality and the important work they do; included solely to highlight the causes and community efforts I care about and have been proud to support.
A special thanks goes to each of these groups and individuals for their tireless work in our community in bringing people together, championing important causes, cleaning up our streets, and raising funds to improve lives. We wouldn’t have these vital efforts without the dedication and support of individuals who come together for the greater good. Thank you!
