Independent for CQ South Ward
The past 18 months, I’ve attended every monthly Connah’s Quay Town Council meeting as a member of the public (plus committee meetings where the public is allowed), ensuring I am well-versed in the needs of the Town, each ward within, and have become familiar with the councillors who represent them. I’ve had the privilege of shadowing and assisting town and county councillors from across the wards.
I regularly meet with our local PCSO’s and police officers at their 'Cuppa with a Copper' events, fostering strong relationships with the people who help keep our town safe. As a member of the ‘Litter Pickers for Deeside’ group, you can often find me out in and around South Ward with my orange bag and grabber, doing my part to keep our town clean. These moments are about more than just litter; they’re about connection. I love stopping to chat with people, offering a helping hand, and sharing a smile - because sometimes, a simple conversation can brighten someone’s day.
As a Litter Champion, I am currently making in-roads with ‘Keep Wales Tidy’ to support their litter-picking hub initiative. My goal is to promote this program to local businesses, community groups, and schools, helping raise awareness and combat littering and fly-tipping—issues that are far too common in our town. I enjoy chatting with residents and this has built up a picture of certain needs which I aim to help address. With a more official role, I hope to fortify the existing administration to help continue tackling this problem effectively. I’m committed to making Connah’s Quay a cleaner, safer place with better spaces for our children to play and for us all to enjoy.
The primary role of a local councillor is to represent the residents of their ward. This means being visible, engaged, and approachable—not just turning up to a monthly meeting and calling it a day. I’m committed to actively listening to your concerns, offering support on a wide range of issues, and working with relevant services to ensure your needs are addressed. In the council chambers, every councillor is responsible for overseeing important delicions such as planning, the council’s use of public resources, helping to shape budgets, maintaining local services and promoting/maintaining the town council assets including the Civic Hall, the Quay Buildings, Community Centre, allotments, bus shelter as well as addressing local needs and organising community events, collaborating with police, health services and more.
As one of South Ward's representatives, my priority will always be putting you, the people first. I will continuously review my aims and priorities to ensure they align with the evolving needs of our community. My focus won’t be set in stone - it will adapt to address the most pressing issues and opportunities as they arise, ensuring that my efforts remain relevant, effective, and reflective of what matters most to you.
