Why I’m an Independent

As someone who has always taken part in voting, I understand the role councils play in shaping our community. During the past 2 years I’ve closely followed the shifts in Connah’s Quay Town Council, particularly during the challenging period under the previous administration. After the last local Election in 2022 we saw a significant shift, sparking a wave of community members stepping forward to take on council roles as independents.

This shift revealed deep issues within the council - issues that the current clerk and councillors worked incredibly hard to address. Today, we are beginning to reap the benefits from this transformation, with the Town Council becoming more boyant, embracing transparency, setting clear plans of action, and moving away from issues of the past.

From my time spent attending each monthly meeting in the public gallery, it’s become even more evident that party politics has no place in local community matters. The council should remain a-political, and I strongly believe that the prime focus should always be on serving the community without political party agendas. Being an independent allows me the freedom to openly voice your views, your concerns, my ideas and collaborate with all members of the council, regardless of their political affiliation, without fear of party control, ensuring the best outcomes for the community.

Your voices deserve to be heard, valued, and genuinely represented in the council chamber. Too often, party politics dictate decisions based on agendas rather than the needs and wishes of the community. I believe this isn’t right at any level of government - especially within our town council. Now elected, I can work to keep Connah’s Quay free from political influence and focused on what matters to our residents.
